Hellfire S is an arcade Shoot Em Up port that really shows off not only how faithful the system can replicate the experience but adds to it, turning it into something special. While the game itself is still Hellfire – with it’s love-it-or-hate-it weapon system, Sc-Fi space shooter setting, addictive game-play and large bosses – it changes the protagonist from male to female, adds anime style cut-scenes, and an arranged Redbook audio CD soundtrack. I for one was never bothered by the funky weapon system, being able to switch your firing direction at will is quite useful!, and it makes for some unique game-play experiences. The changes and new additions are welcome, serving to keep things fresh and different than more standard ports. Hands down the best version imho, well deserving a place in any Shooter fans collection, yet another win for the PC Engine CD.
