Princess Shizuhime has been kidnapped by a group of ninja and is being held captive in Lord Hiei’s castle. Kaze, a young ninja, is tasked with infiltrating the castle, defeating enemies, and rescuing the princess.
Kaze Kiri is a side-scrolling action/beat-em-up/hack n slash game where players control Kaze as he fights through levels, defeating enemies and bosses. Players can attack with a sword, throw shurikens, and perform various acrobatic moves. You can also disappear momentarily and re-appear to confuse the enemy. After completing the game, players can unlock Suzu, another playable ninja character.
A personal favorite, I think it’s easily one of the best games on the system. Fantastic graphics with top notch pixel art and animation, sound, atmosphere, cool bosses, intense game-play, polished presentation and an awesome anime style and intro. Once you get the hang of it, getting into the zone with this one makes you feel like a total bad-ass. This is one of the most expensive games to obtain an original of, but it’s for good reason as it’s the most well made ninja themed title on the platform. If you enjoyed Ninja Spirit, Ninja Gaiden, or the Shinobi series you owe it to yourself to play this hidden gem.
