Fray in Magical Adventure is a 1990 spin-off “gaiden” (sidestory) game in a role-playing video game series Xak developed and published by the Japanese software developer MicroCabin. Even though it is directly connected to the more serious Xak storyline, Fray has a less serious tone and light-hearted comedic approach to telling the story. It was originally released for the MSX2 and was later ported to several different systems, including the PC Engine as Fray CD.
While this is a Japanese language game, being more action oriented than RPG makes things more playable. It’s basically an overhead Run n Gun shooter in most respects with some platforming. For the dialogue, you can try using the Google translate app’s photo mode to decipher what’s on screen when you need.
