Must have Shoot Em Up for every system owner. Highly sought after and notoriously expensive for an original copy. Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire (Legend of the Galaxy Policewoman Sapphire) or simply “Sapphire” for short, was released towards the end of the system’s life cycle and utilizes the Arcade Card RAM upgrade to the fullest – pulling off graphics such as polygons (which were pre-rendered CG) and special effects never thought possible on the hardware. Not only a solid Shooter but true graphical powerhouse and technical showcase crossing the boundaries well beyond 8-bit, 16-bit, and even 32-bit. Oh, and the soundtrack? it’d done by T’s Music of Lords of Thunder (Winds of Thunder) fame!
Fun facts: Hudson forged a collaboration between CAProduction and Mika Akitaka to develop Sapphire. Akitaka was known for his artistic work in the Galaxy Fräulein Yuna adventure game series and Gundam media franchise. Hudson also sourced the studio J.C.Staff for animation work.
