Kabuki Ittōryōdan is a spin-off fighting game set in the Tengai Makyō universe, specifically related to Fūun Kabuki Den. Unlike its predecessor, it lacks a story mode. Instead, it features characters from Fūun Kabuki Den battling each other for no explicit reason across various modes: a “scenario mode” where any of the eight characters can fight against a series of opponents, a two-player “Vs. mode,” and a “Life Attack” mode against randomly chosen AI opponents. The playable roster includes heroes like Kabuki, Okuni, and Zeami, as well as villains such as Kikugorou and Garp, and the ape Mantou. Gameplay is typical of a fighting game with basic kick and punch moves, alongside unique character-specific melee and magical attacks, such as Kabuki’s sword and Okuni’s fire abilities.
This game is a genuine showcase for the Arcade Card expansion and Avenue Pad 6 controller with some of the absolute best animation you will ever experience. One of the best fighting games ever made for the console, even if you aren’t familiar with the game series. A must play and often flies under the radar being over shadowed by other more familiar fighting games.
