Cotton 2 is the true sequel to the original game, introducing Cotton’s rival, Appli, for the first time, which allows for two-player co-op.
The story centers on the disappearance of the magical “Bluewater Willow” from the Kingdom’s treasury, which Cotton and Appli must retrieve by battling enemies across the lands.
The game is a 2D side-scrolling shooter that retains the original’s roots but adds several new features:
- New spells and elemental weapons that can be upgraded with experience crystals.
- A new energy bar that allows players to take multiple hits.
- “Command shots” that are triggered by specific controller movements.
- A hit-combo system for earning more power-ups and items.
The Sega Saturn version also includes a unique “Saturn mode” with different enemy arrangements and game balance changes.
