Flash Hiders is an anime-style 2D fighting game with a distinct RPG slant. The game has a heavy focus on story and presentation, featuring animated, voiced cutscenes throughout the game’s scenario mode, as well as the ability to purchase and use equipment to increase your stats. The scenario mode follows the martial-artist Bang as he travels through a war-torn world with the sorceress Tiria and an all-but-adopted kid named Erue. The “Advance” mode lets you choose any character in the game and follow their specific story, building your character’s abilities as you go. There is, of course, also a versus mode for two players.
This is honestly one of my favorite games ever for the system and in general, very underrated fighting game in my opinion. I personally love everything about it, the art style, soundtrack, sound effects, gameplay, presentation, and the variety of different modes are all fantastic. Just watching the opening cinematic still gets me hyped and makes me super nostalgic, this along with Spriggan and Dracula X were my trifecta of Japanese import Duo goodness and I sank many hours into this one both solo and with friends back around when this originally came out. Don’t sleep on this one if you love fighting games and anime, features strong nods to Battle Angel Alita in some of the art and character designs. Great game that really well utilizes the Duo and takes advantage of the CD format.
