FAQ

Please note that I have a new shop to handle orders for a more convenient shopping experience. If there’s something you cannot find or is out of stock feel free to inquire, I can also take custom orders depending on availability.

Shipping & Handling

All orders now use calculated shipping. Located in the U.S.A., International First Class shipping prices are dependent on weight and country, simply use the new Shop for automatic calculation. All orders are packed well, with most domestic orders being shipped by USPS Ground Advantage with tracking. Priority Mail option is also available. Since I am based in the United States, Canada is considered international.

While I do aim to produce and ship items as quickly as possible, please allow up to 5-10 business days to process before shipping, times can vary depending on how busy. Please also be aware that supply chain and shipping issues continue to persist and that can affect production and shipping times all around. Thank you for your patience.

General F.A.Q.:

Q. Can you make HuCard (aka TurboChip) games?

A. Sorry, I cannot. My primary focus and specialty are CD based titles. There are numerous other sellers online that specialize in HuCards and cartridge games in general. I personally just use a Turbo Everdrive for any HuCards I do not have or am unable to acquire.

Q. Can you make replacement cases for HuCards?

A. Yes and no. The most I can offer are CD jewel cases with artwork. All you would need to do is either replace the CD tray with a 3D printed one designed to hold HuCards or snap off the CD holding teeth to fit the game inside the case. I do not have a 3D printer and again there are others that specialize in all things HuCard, including cases.

Q. Do these work on the Analogue Duo?

A. So far, so good for the most part. These are working on the new Analogue Duo system as it’s made to duplicate original hardware via FPGA. But, you may possibly run into issues regarding compatibility of certain titles, regardless if original or backup. Please be aware before purchasing. If you do run into any issues please let me know. Please ensure your firmware is capable/up-to-date by checking information online before contacting. As always, all printing is directly onto discs, so no worry about stickers in the CD slot.

Q. Why am I having trouble with a PC Engine Arcade Card game on my real hardware console?

A. Have you tried removing and reinserting the Arcade Card? By far the most common reason you are experiencing issues or glitches with an Arcade Card title is a bad connection of contacts in the HuCard slot. Like with the NES, the simplest first thing to try is to remove the Card, blow out the cartridge slot – maybe use an electronics duster instead, reinsert the Card and try again. Please ensure the contacts of your Arcade Card are clean especially and free of any dirt, dust, rust, glue, or debris and that your console’s HuCard slot is also free of any lint or dirt before contacting. Every title is confirmed working on a real PC Engine Duo with an Arcade Card before shipping.

Q. When will you be adding more Sega Saturn titles?

A. I’m working on it, slowly but surely. You can always contact me for a specific title and I’ll see what I can do.

Q. I saw your photos on another website or what looks like your work on Etsy or other site, is this also you?

A. No, my only websites are this one you are on:
https://retrografx16.com/
My new shop:
https://retrografx16.myshopify.com/
There is also my old Etsy:
https://www.etsy.com/shop/retrografx16/

If you see any images, design or photos from this site elsewhere they were stolen and or copied (such as: Etsy sellers like “So and so Pixels” etc., another Retro game site or shady Chinese clone site for example) and do not trust or support them, much appreciated. Feel free to compare photos from my site and any disc art elsewhere that looks exactly like mine with Reproduction marked in the same places in the same font… I put in all the original hard work to make them that way, don’t fall for these knock off inferior copies and inconsistent products that seek to mimic mine. This of course does not apply to customers’ social media, etc. Feel free to share online if you’re happy with your purchases. This only applies to those trying to sell you something. I will start using my logo on discs moving forward. Beware of copycats.

Q. What about the Polymega system?

A. While I do not own one myself, so far PC Engine & TurboGrafx CD games have been reported to work fine by actual customers on the new Polymega console without any issues. I’ve been told that you may experience issues with Sega CD, regardless if using an original or backup. You may want to check for various title compatibility issues before purchasing.

Q. What kind of paper are the covers?

A. Full-color printing on semi-gloss card stock for all CD based cover art and the DVD art card inserts, DVD cases have their own specialty DVD insert paper for the front/back outside covers – like store bought.

Q. Do you alter or enhance the cover art?

A. Artwork is generally touched up to remove blemishes such as dust and scratches. Occasionally more detailed reconstruction is required depending on quality and availability of art assets. For US Sega CD and Saturn: each cover is reformatted personally to fit the DVD style format while staying as close to the original look as possible. I do this mainly in order to keep artwork in the correct proportions as the stretched out art I’ve seen many others use I do not care for.

Q. Do you burn at slow speeds to ensure compatibility?

A. Yes, game discs are burned at slowest speed and verified.

Q. What type of discs do you use?

A. Game discs are high-quality, professional-grade, and water-resistant (Taiyo Yuden – for silver reflective top discs or equivalent quality for white style discs.) Bonus soundtrack discs are completely waterproof like a store bought CD.

Q. How should I handle the game discs? Can I wash and scrub the discs with soap and water if they get soiled?

A. Please handle only by disc edges. Even though these are indeed water-resistant, you should still avoid moisture and touching the top and bottom surfaces. Any liquid should be lightly dabbed off with a clean lint-free cloth, Do Not Scrub discs or use chemicals of any kind.

Q. Do you test out the games to make sure they work before shipping?

A. Yes, each game is individually tested on a either a PC Engine Duo with a relatively new laser or JVC X’Eye or Sega Saturn with a Pseudo Saturn Kai cartridge. If you are still using a PC Engine Duo with it’s original laser there is a higher chance of experiencing issues as they are quite old at this point and do wear out, you may want to consider new laser replacement. Please ensure you know your system is able to play backups before ordering. Saturn owners, updating your Pseudo Saturn Kai firmware and making sure it is properly shielded also goes a long way to improving compatibility. I do not have a hard-mod Saturn to test with.

Q. What steps are in place to make sure no one sells these as if they are original games?

A. All game discs will be marked Reproduction (and/or with my logo moving forward) to avoid confusion. Additionally, most factory made original game PCE CDs have a 1.5″ diameter clear plastic ring around the center hole (depending on release and platform) while these new discs have a printable surface “edge to edge” with only a few millimeters of clear plastic around the center hole.

Q. Reproductions on my console? Cost?

A. Prices cover the time and materials required. I only use the highest quality discs that ensure the safety and life of your consoles as well as maximum compatibility, playability and longevity. You may find cheaper options online but I still aim to keep things affordable regardless. I always test before shipping and I’m constantly trying to improve product quality. Your satisfaction is very important to me, if you’re unsatisfied for any reason please contact me so I can make things right before leaving a review.

Q. Is there a manual included?

A. For PCE/TG-CD: front insert card is a double-sided print, not a manual or paper folded in half. For Sega CD: DVD cover is single sided print, as is the included insert card.

Q. Will you be able to make full manuals?

A. Not at this time, perhaps someday in the future.

Q. Are the games region free?

A. For PCE/TG-CD: The CD based games have always been region free, compatible with US TurboDuo or JP PC Engine Duo systems. Sega CD games are US NTSC region only.

Q. Can you provide Flac or mp3s of the music?

A. Sorry, I am only including soundtracks as special bonus discs. Feel free to rip the music yourself if so desired.

Q. What if I am having trouble booting a game?

A. All games are tested and confirmed working on the aforementioned consoles. Since these are vintage consoles, playing backups may reveal your system needs maintenance. If you are still playing with a 25+ years old laser I recommend installing a new one.

Q. What about the original PCE/TG-16 CD-ROM add-on units?

A. Unfortunately I am not able to test on those, the original CD-ROM attachment is reportedly more sensitive and likely to have problems playing backups. Please be aware of it and purchase at your own risk.

Q. What about the original Sega CD add-on units etc.?

A. Again, I am not able to test on those but since I have owned them in the past, from my experience they are most likely fine, especially considering the JVC X’Eye is notoriously more sensitive to CDs. In fact, most customers use model 1 or 2 Sega CD units without any issue. I cannot speak to the CDX all-in-one unit.
