In the 21st century, Tokyo is invaded by alien forces. To combat this threat, a giant mecha fighter is created, and a young pilot is tasked with piloting it.
Kiaidan 00 is a side-scrolling shoot-em-up game where players control a giant mecha. Unlike traditional shoot-em-ups, players have access to all weapons from the start, and can switch between them at will. Weapons can also be charged for enhanced power or effects. The game features dialogue and cutscenes to advance the story.
Kiaidan 00 is a rather obscure Shoot Em Up in the style of a classic giant robot anime. The titular robot looking something akin to a Gundam x Mazinger Z mashup. Surprisingly well made in every respect and very entertaining with extra effort put into really making it feel like you are taking part in the action of a vintage anime. Not too surprising if you’ve never heard of it, I for one didn’t discover it till many years later but rest assured – this is one of the best shooters on the system. Full of all the landmarks that make full use of the system: amazing graphics, great sound, tight game-play, anime cut-scenes, parallax scrolling, tons of sprites, unique power-ups, big bosses, it’s got it all! So, Get in the freaking Robot!
