Hawk, a young fighter, ventures into the dangerous Dragon Zone to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend, Candy. Together with his friend, Tony, they fight their way through the criminal underworld, taking on street punks and gang leaders.
Riot Zone is a straightforward beat-em-up game where players can control either Hawk or Tony. Each character has unique fighting styles and special moves. The game features boss battles and a progression system as players work their way through the city’s criminal hierarchy.
Alright, so if you’re a TurboGrafx-16 fan you are probably already well aware of this Beat Em Up, which I believe was the only one ever released in the US, right? Well, you may not know that this is actually the only home console port of the arcade game called Riot City which was done by Westone of Monster World fame and released by SEGA. There were some changes made to the graphics to distinguish itself from that version, and the order of the levels was switched around a bit, but basically it’s like a remix of Riot City. Unfortunately, much like Final Fight on the SNES, this is one player only. Also, there are no weapon pick-ups… But, if you can get over all that, it’s the Beat Em Up we got in the US a la Final Fight copycat, and the only one in English.
