Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams is a truly Fantastic horizontal Shoot Em Up, and arguably the best port available of the Sega arcade original. You play as Cotton, a cute witch riding a broomstick, and battle through stages full of imagination and bizarre creatures. With it’s cute-horror aesthetic, magical power ups, loads of parallax, huge bosses, and even a friendly fairy that fights along side of you, it’s easy to see why this is such a beloved classic. Surely, not your usual futuristic, alien-blasting “Space Shooter” and a nice change of pace for anyone looking for something different, fun and perhaps a little macabre. While this is the JP version, you can actually set your language to English in the Options menu. (Press Select on the title screen to access Options) This is great as it basically provides “subtitles” so-to-speak for all the fully voiced cutscenes!

The US version is now also available, please note that it removed the original Japanese narration and voice acting for all story sequences, leaving only the text. While I grew up with the US version, I do prefer the Japanese version these days since it’s basically the exact same + voice overs (set English text in options). Regardless, this one has been requested before, which is understandable for nostalgia and as original US version copies do go for an insane amount at auction, so here ya go!
