Kaizō Chōjin Shubibinman 3: Ikai no Princess (Cyber Citizen Shockman 3: The Princess from Another World) is the final game in the series and the first one to appear on CD-ROM format. Interestingly, the only game to see a US release was the second game which was re-titled simply as Shockman on HuCard. One could say these games are the PC Engine’s answer to Mega Man but very much their own thing. For example, rather than a single protagonist you can choose either male or female robot/android when starting the game. While the second game is arguably much better than the first, it’s too bad this one didn’t see a release in the West as it is a truly fantastic and fun Action title. Everything is amped up now being on CD with large sprites, parallax scrolling, Redbook CD music, cool boss fights, more varied levels and a few surprises. Whether you were a fan of Shockman on the TurboGrafx-16 or new to the series, this is one of the best Action/Platform games on the system and not to be missed. It’s worth noting that apparently it was actually planned for a US release being renamed Shockman 2, with Working Designs even handling translation but was eventually cancelled.
