In Art of Fighting, Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia fight their way through South Town to rescue Ryo’s kidnapped sister, Yuri, eventually uncovering dark family secrets and mob connections. The game distinguishes itself with a Spirit meter that depletes when special moves are used, forcing players to balance power with the vulnerability of recharging. Additionally, players can turn the tide of a losing match by unleashing a powerful “desperation” attack, provided their health is low and their Spirit meter is full.
This port is one of the more interesting home versions from the time, going so far as to recreate the Neo Geo console’s sprite scaling effect – zooming in and out like the arcade version. A great showcase for the Arcade Card expansion and Avenue Pad 6 controller. The zoom effect might not be as smooth as an actual Neo Geo but still a commendable effort that has to be seen to believe!
